Today’s post is a little different from my other articles, because we are going to have a little fun. We’re going to get your mind thinking. With that said, we often think of Judas as the disciple who betrayed Jesus. But what if instead he actually made the biggest sacrifice?
Before we go any further, I want to give credit where credit is due. This question was actually posed by a friend, Ryan Frazier, when we worked together at a church. It’s just one of those questions that really get your mind thinking.
Judas The Worst Betrayer
I’m sure we all know the story of Judas and his betrayal.
- He takes the coins.
- He kissed Jesus on the cheek.
- Jesus gets taken.
- Judas tries to return the coins.
- Jesus dies.
- Judas kills himself.
The world’s worst story of betrayal and regret.
But what if we look at it from a different lens?
Judas The Biggest Sacrifice
What if Judas made the biggest sacrifice? He knew the scriptures. He knew the prophecies. He knew what had to happen to Jesus in order for Him to fulfill his role as the Messiah.
In John 15:13 Jesus says,
Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friend.
He says this just after He discloses that Judas will betray Him. Is that what Christ was alluding to?
Did Judas “lay down his life” so that Christ could be fulfilled as the Savior?
Was he so overcome with grief and regret after doing “what had to be done” that he killed himself?
