In a world that is pulling you in a thousand directions and is constantly sucking the life out of you it can be easy to become overwhelmed. If you do not know where your source is, you strength will be drained, your joy will dwindle, and you will constantly stress over your finances. Where is your source?
Your Source Of Joy
It can be easy to become overwhelmed in this life. The troubles and toils you face concerning your bills, family, work, and whether or not you are making an impact can bring a dark cloud of depression over your spirit. It will quite literally steal your joy if you allow it, and if you do not know where your source is.
Social media makes it easy to show the world only the best snapshots of our lives. The girl you admire because it seems like she has everything together, actually took twenty-two selfies before she found one that she liked enough to share with her social stream. In reality she is falling apart inside.
The guy you admire because he continually posts pictures of all of his “toys” is writhing in his spirit. He is trying to fill a spiritual void with “things,” rather than with Christ.
Comparison is the thief of joy. When you compare your life or ministry to others it will steal your joy. This is why joy is an inside job.
Not only is joy a fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5), it is also your strength (Neh. 8:10). Joy is beyond an attribute or characteristic of your personality. Joy is a person, a living being. Christ is the embodiment of joy. When you put on the mind of Christ, and when you plug in to Him who is the source of joy, your spirit is renewed and strengthened.
The troubles and toils of this life become mere blips on the radar when Christ’s joy is thriving within you. When you unplug from the source of your joy it will wane just like the battery on your phone you are probably reading this on. You may make it for a little while, but eventually that joy will fade without a power source.
Stay plugged into the source of Joy for your joy to continually overflow.
Your Source Of Finances
Have you ever run in to a situation where you have more month than paycheck? Maybe it’s just that it seems like you can never get ahead in your finances. Maybe, just maybe, this seems like it’s a regular occurrence for you. I would ask, Are you plugged in to your source?
I’m not sharing some sort of prosperity gospel here, because that will always leave you wanting. I’m talking about living a life in pure and utter dependence with child like faith on the provision of God for your needs in life.
Your money doesn’t come from your job. It doesn’t come from your clients or the stock market. Anything you have is a result of God’s provision. He is your source. Sometimes we suck at stewarding those finances. Look what Matthew shares:
Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? – Matthew 6:26-27
He paid taxes with coins from the mouth of a fish, he cares for the birds of the air. Why then do we worry about His provision? Do you think he is not able to care for you?
It took a situation of almost losing quite a few clients to truly tap into this thinking and believing, but since I have it has revolutionized my faith, my marriage, and my life.
There have been times when it seemed like we didn’t even have two pennies to rub together, but somehow God provided. I can look back over the last twenty years and see God’s hand of provision in my life. Again, I’m not talking prosperity gospel here. I am talking about providing for my needs: a roof over my head, food in my fridge, and a shirt on my back.
He is my source. I may not have much. I may not live with a giant bank account, or lots of “things,” but I know where my source is. And, I know that no matter how hard things may get, I know my source.
It would be easy to allow your financial situation to steal your joy, or to even make you doubt God’s love for you. The truth is He cares for you beyond comprehension. Listen to Paul’s words for these kinds of troubling situations:
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:6-7
When you live knowing God is your source, His peace will guard your heart and mind from allowing your temporary circumstances to steal your joy.
Your Source Of Life
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” – John 14:6
Are you living your life on your own ability? Are you walking in the light of your own frontal lobe knowledge? Or, are you living by the life that dwells within you.
Andrew Murray said,
A dead Christ I must do everything for; a living Christ does everything for me.
Christ is alive. He is all, and He is everything. When He is your source of life, and you are living by Christ’s life, the trials and difficulties of this life will fade away. I’m not saying everything is going to be easy-peasy. I’m saying it won’t matter.
Two times Paul shares his thoughts concerning Christ as his source. This first is in his letter to the Romans:
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. – Romans 8:16-18
And again to the Philippian believers he says:
But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, – Phillipians 3:7-9
Do you consider your belongings as your own? Do you consider your life to be your own; or do you consider it all, everything around you even your very breath, dross and rubbish as compared to knowing your source? When you plug in to Christ as your source for all things this world holds nothing of value for you.
When we plant within our hearts Paul’s words to the Colossian church “Christ is all,” you will be plugged in to the source of all hope and life. When the seed of this truth is planted, watered, and tended to it will blossom into a tree of life, a faith and life in Christ that causes the toils of this life to fade away with hope in Him who is the source of all things.
So I ask you today, where is your source? Is it your job, the stock market, your social status and online followers, or is it the one true source of all things? Do not be troubled by this life, for He has overcome. Plug in to Christ as your source with child like faith my friends.
